Six days of dialogue and self-discovery in a supportive learning community.

The dates and details of the 2020 national session are as follows:

May 10-15, 2020: Latinx Affinity national session of the Institute in Dover, MA

May 17-22, 2020: Open Enrollment national session of the Institute in Woodstock, IL

July 19-24, 2020: Women of Color Affinity national session of the Institute in Champaign, IL

July 26-31, 2020: Open Enrollment national session of the Institute in Champaign, IL

The price of the Institute is $1475 (plus travel) per participant. This cost includes all lodging, meals, and materials for all six days of the Institute but does not include travel to the session.

We will be hosting two affinity-based sessions of the Institute in 2020. The purpose of these sessions is to allow for students to unpack the complexity of leadership AND the complexity of holding a particular identity with others who identify in similar ways - by race, gender, class, sexual orientation, ability, etc. It is our theory, and finding, that in these sessions, conversations that do not often happen in traditional Institute sessions because of normative culture (and because we don’t live in an equitable society, yet) can take place among the gathered identity group. Therefore, deeper exploration of leadership within a culturally responsive framework can happen. This experience, just like all others, will be centered in the curriculum.

Contact us at 800.988.LEAD (5323) or and let us know how many participants you plan to send. We will then send you an invoice and link to our on-line session registration.

Campuses often wish to provide the Institute experience to more than the few students who are able to attend a national session. Becoming a campus partner that hosts the Institute allows up to 60 students from your campus to experience the Institute on your campus at the same time.

In 2019, we partnered with these Institutes to provide the Institute experience for their students.

The Institute is facilitated by a group of volunteers who devote a week of their time to helping develop leaders. They believe in the mission and vision of LeaderShape®, demonstrate a commitment to their core values and are invested in helping individuals grow. Institute facilitators come from higher education, corporate organizations and non-profit settings.

Two Co-Lead Facilitators guide the four or six-day curriculum. In addition to facilitating learning in the large group setting, Co-Lead Facilitators share responsibilities that include coordinating the daily logistics of the session and training/supporting the small group Cluster Facilitators.

To apply to serve as a Co-Lead Facilitator, please begin your application here. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, January 9, 2020. If you have any questions about the application process or the Co-Lead Facilitator role, please contact Kristen Young at

Cluster Facilitators are an important part of the faculty team during the Institute. They work directly with a small group of 10-12 participants to encourage authentic dialogue and enhance learning. To apply to serve as a Cluster Facilitator for a national session of the Institute, begin your application here. The deadline to express interest in the Cluster Facilitator role is Friday, January 17, 2020.
